Laser Therapy 4 Pets

Therapeutic laser (often “cold laser” or Class IV laser) is a light-based modality used to manage pain and stimulate healing in pets. In a session, a handheld laser emits a specific wavelength (visible red to infrared) onto the skin. This light energy is absorbed by cells, triggering photobiomodulation. The result is increased endorphin release, reduced inflammatory mediator levels, and enhanced micro-circulation in the target tissue. In practice, laser therapy accelerates tissue repair and suppresses pain with no side effects.

Laser Therapy
  • Common uses: Chronic arthritis pain, soft tissue injuries (sprains, strains), surgical incision and wound healing. It is also used for ear or skin inflammation in some cases.
  • Session details: Treatments are brief (often under 15 minutes), and pets usually remain calm without sedation. The laser is applied directly to fur-clipped areas or through the coat, and multiple sites can be done in one visit.

Studies in veterinary medicine support laser benefits. For example, dogs with osteoarthritis receiving laser therapy showed significantly less pain and greater mobility over weeks of treatment. Pet owners often report that their animal “looks like a puppy again” after a course of laser therapy. Effects are cumulative: several consecutive sessions may be needed for best results.

Refer your patient: Laser therapy is an excellent adjunct for pets with limited pain-medication options or chronic pain. If you have a DFW-area patient suffering from persistent joint pain, a non-healing wound, or post-op stiffness, referring them for cold laser treatments at Rehab 4 Pets can speed recovery.
